Syrian Government airstrikes in the province of Idlib have resulted in 44 deaths, with the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights stating that at least 3 children were among the victims.

Previously, the Geneva peace talks showed little promise, as the Syrian opposition group alleged Government violations during the talks. As conflict increases in the North-West of the country, there is fear of a complete collapse in the current seven-week partial truce.

The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, insisted that peace talks were still in progress, and that external actors were attempting to destabilise the peace process.

“There are some players on the external front who cherish dreams of ousting the regime using force, they are trying to do everything they can to achieve this, including attempts to trigger derailment of the intra-Syria talks.”

Rebel groups also launched assaults on Government positions in the Northern Homs province, claiming the attacks were in retaliation for increasing Government attacks on residential and displaced populations.
